What it costs
Real installed prices for 2026, before and after grant, and the six things that actually move the number on your property.
CostsMCS-certified installation for homes and businesses across Scotland. Free heat loss survey, fixed quote and full grant support.
Scotland has a colder design temperature than anywhere in England, a lot of rural and island property off the gas grid, and a completely different grant scheme. That shapes both the design and the price, which is why we survey rather than quote from a postcode.
Scotland does not use the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Funding comes through the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan, which pays up to £7,500 towards a heat pump, rising to £9,000 for rural and island properties, with an optional interest-free loan of up to £7,500 on top.
The critical difference: you apply, and you must be approved before any work starts. Under the English scheme the installer handles it and timing barely matters. Here, starting work before approval forfeits the funding outright, with no retrospective claim. The measure also has to be recommended in your EPC or a Home Energy Scotland adviser report.
Build that into your timeline. We will tell you exactly what is needed, but the application is yours to make. See grants by nation for the full detail.
Every job starts with a free room-by-room heat loss survey. If a heat pump is not right for your property, we say so then rather than after you have paid for one.

Hot water£8,000 to £14,000 installed for most homes, more for large or period property. After the Home Energy Scotland grant of up to £7,500, or £9,000 rural, most households pay a net figure well under £6,000, and an interest-free loan can cover the balance.

Home Energy Scotland, not the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. You apply yourself and must be approved before work begins, or you lose the funding. It is more generous than the English scheme once the interest-free loan is counted.
Some of them, usually four to six in a typical three-bed. Heat pumps run cooler than boilers, so radiators need more surface area for the same output. The room-by-room heat loss survey identifies exactly which.
